Product Engineer (m/f/x)

RAPA LP | Location: Auburn, AL / U.S. | Full Time

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for researching and developing ideas and processes for new products. Improves upon the performance and design of existing products.
  • Design, model, and test prototypes for products.
  • Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
  • Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases, elements and reviewing bids from contractors.
  • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  • Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  • Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  • Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
  • Controls project costs by approving expenditures.
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Establish design briefs.
  • Produce final drawings and specifications.
  • Create parts lists.
  • Make samples of working models for demonstration.
  • Improve usability of an item.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Education and Experience

  • Product engineering/design experience in an automotive manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Bachelors in relevant engineering field.  Masters preferred.
  • Technical/mechanical aptitude with mechatronics experience and basic knowledge of technical drawings is preferred.
  • Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) to design concepts and simulation software for structure, system, magnetic circuit or flow simulation is preferred.
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and handle multiple projects and assignments with proficiency.
  • Management experience is not required.
  • Ability to travel as required up to 15%.
